History of The Mills Marketplace
The Mills Marketplace in Lincoln, New Hampshire, has a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. Originally built as a sawmill by James E. Henry in the 1800s, the mill played a crucial role in supplying lumber to the local community and fueling the region’s growing economy.
As the years passed, the mill changed hands and was later acquired by the Parker Young Company, which repurposed it into a paper mill. Significant investments were made to modernize the facility, allowing it to thrive as a key player in the paper industry. For decades, the mill provided employment for local residents and contributed to the economic foundation of Lincoln.
However, as the paper industry declined in the latter half of the 20th century, the mill ultimately closed its doors in the 1970s. In the years that followed, the site was transformed into a vibrant retail and dining destination, preserving the legacy of the original mill while offering a fresh new experience for visitors.
Today, The Mills Marketplace stands as a tribute to Lincoln’s industrious past, blending history with modern-day commerce. While the space now welcomes shoppers and diners, the original character of the buildings remains intact, honoring the hardworking spirit of those who built and sustained this community. Whether you’re here to browse unique shops, enjoy a meal, or simply take in the charm of the surroundings, The Mills Marketplace is a living reminder of Lincoln’s rich heritage.
